The word Malayka stems from the word for Angel in many Ugandan languages. We are very excited about the future of Malayka International to help orphans, at-risk children, and those suffering from poverty in Uganda.

Welcome to Malayka International, we are a non-profit organization focused on caring for the orphans and poor in Uganda. We focus on community based projects and currently are raising funds to build an orphanage in Uganda.

OUR MINISTRIES

1. Ugandan Soldiers on American Bases
Unlike our American soldiers, the Ugandans have little or no support and many lack things like warm clothes for the very cold desert nights and basic hygiene items. Many of these Ugandans, fathers and mothers, have left their own children in Uganda for the opportunities to serve in Iraq and provide for their families back home. For 20 years Uganda has been in the middle of a brutal civil war and many have lost parents, siblings, and children to the rebel invaders. Others have lost many family members to disease. Consequently a single Ugandan soldier is often providing not only for his own family, but also for several nieces and nephews left parentless from the civil war, and many have even taken in some of the 2 million orphaned children in Uganda. These brave soldiers have many big responsibilites to their families and communities back home in Uganda.

Yet these Ugandans who number in the hundreds, have signed contracts for 20 months as a time through the U.S. military to guard and protect our bases in Iraq alongside the U.S. Soldiers and Marines. And they serve faithfully day in and day out and have even received an Outstanding Service Award in October 2006. They have a true thankfulness for each blessing God has provided them and radiate a sincerety of joy and hope that is contagious to everyone that knows them! Please take an interest in these hard-working soldiers and their families. 100% of Donations go directly to support the Ugandans.

How to Help: Send Care Packages
We need donated items for care packages, including basic hygiene items, socks/undershirts, lip balm, and calling cards. Also appreciated are letters/emails of encouragement.

2. Displaced Women & Children from Karamojaland:
Karamojaland in North Eastern Uganda has been under attack for 30 years by rebels who kill villagers, including women and children, and their cows. In 2007, 40% of the population lacked adequate food stocks. Many of the Karamoja people have fled to Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, where they cannot speak the language and are forced to live in the slum areas. Their only way to survive is begging and scavenging the streets for leftover food. Some of the mothers have even given up their own children just to make sure they are fed by someone.

        How to Help:
The Karamoja's native region of Uganda has recently come into a time of peace, however the Karamoja lack transportation and rebuilding costs to leave the slums of the city and return to their villages. If you are interested in contributing to this cause, please make a donation using the Paypal link above.

3. Building of an Orphanage in Uganda:
In 2007 we began to provide for 100 Ugandan children left as orphans in an area of northern Uganda called Gulu. If you are familiar with the film "Invisible Children," then you may know a little about these children we are helping. For over 20 years, a brutal rebel led war in northern Uganda has left millions homeless and orphaned. Many of these children were abducted to serve in the rebel army and others witnessed their parents murdered when the rebels invaded their villages. In an effort to help the many homeless children living in refugee camps in Gulu and living off the streets around Uganda, we have been providing basic needs for these children, including mosquito netting, toothpaste/toothbrushes, blankets, and food staples, with the long-term goal of building an orphanage.

How to Help: Campaign for Purchase of Land & Building of Orphanage
Dear Angel Ministries has begun a new campaign to raise money for the purchase of land and building of an orphanage in Uganda. By clicking the Donate button above, you can help contribute to the purchase of land and a new building. Our goal is to raise enough funding to start building by Autumn of 2009.

To Read Letters from the Ugandans: Please click on the small "Comments" link directly below this posting to read some of the letters that the Ugandans have written to us. They will touch your heart! Many of those listed are soldiers in Iraq still waiting to be adopted.

Donations for Care Packages: Dear Angel Ministries is also in great need of used/new items for care packages to the Ugandans, their families, and the orphanages. Please see our list of current donation needs below.
